Finally got to see some of the NOLA work that Banksy did to commemorate the third anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. We just happened to walk by it while on our way to Frenchman St. for Halloween. It was definitely a nice surprise. Someone had nailed a sheet of plexieglass around the entire piece. That made me really happy for obvious reasons but it also made me a bit nostalgic. I often struggle to remember my past in Louisiana. Whether it’s good or bad memories or even just how to get around the city, I find that every time we go home to visit, it feels a little less like home and a little more like a place I wonder if I could ever call home again. Seeing this piece of plexieglass covering something up for the sake of preservation gave me comfort. It’s nice to think that some people realize that it sometimes require more than a foggy head to keep the memories alive.
Oh, and my costume is suppose to be a dead elephant. It was last minute. The elephant nose is on my forehead because I couldn’t breathe out of it through my actual nose. Ironic, huh. But fitting since this is all about memories and elephants supposedly have good ones. Unless they’re dead.
